An innovate Modular build construction contractor based in the West Midlands are recruiting for an permanent experienced Estimator to join their growing team.Job Description: Estimator reporting to the Operations Manager, and working under their direction: Your duties will include: An Initial appraisal of tender documents to identify risk/opportunity and convey findings to management in order to provide an informed decision on whether or not to tender.Preparing and submitting quotations and cost summaries for workSending out tender enquiries mainly by email and assistance with managing a supply chain databaseHelping with bids for new contracts and supporting buying activitiesWriting or having a significant input into compiling Contractor's Proposals on Design & Build tendersPreparing tender programmes or at least having an understanding and input into contract duration timescalesPricing of various trade packages (brickwork, joinery, partitions, suspended ceilings)Which will include: - Researching materials, equipment, transport and labour costs- Collecting quotes from materials suppliers and subcontractors.- Helping plan job timescales- Ability to measure trade packages from drawings and produce Bills of Quantities- Chasing up subcontractor quote returns- Analysing subcontract quote returns ensuring compliance with the brief, importing selected quotes into tender- Pricing of preliminaries including temporary works, scaffolding, plant etc.Assessing the levels of risk on a projectAnalysing company data, exchange rates and prices.Monitoring the stages of a project to make sure they are kept in line with a forecast Leading tender finalisation meetings with the ability to present the risk/opportunity/financial analysis of the tender to the Managing Director- On successful tenders, present a hand-over file to the Operations manager and lead a hand-over meeting at which the full project content (design, scope of works, financial analysis, programme etc.) can be clearly disseminated to the Construction team- Possibly assisting with office space planning/design
Person Specification: - Ideally you have an understanding (from both a technical and cost perspective) of main subcontract elements: ground works, mechanical, electrical
- Good command of written and spoken English (including a confident telephone manner)- Computer literate- Construction and/or design background with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience working as an estimator or surveyor
- Keen eye for detail and the confidence and experience to challenge designs or subcontract quotes which are felt to lack sufficient content, be incomplete or uncompetitive
- Good time management and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Convey a smart, professional image when dealing with external clients and industry professionals
- Full UK Driving Licence
Qualifications: GCSE: English and Mathematics minimum Grade B; ideally A levels plus a construction related higher qualification (HNC/HND or Degree)
