Throwback Thursday M62 West Yorkshire 1960s

Fellas just wanna tell you young uns a story (not during the war) in 1969 as a trainee with GKN or mills scaffolding before name change,i had the honour in performing with these scaffs on M62 new build fly over in Runcorn.
The majority of scaffs were scousers but the leading muscle man was from Glasgee called George,(Quiet fella)in use was 3inch tube for topping out (standards) and the biggest size 18 feet lengths, also was the biggest f*ck off fittings ive ever experienced in throwing up to a scaff who was on price at the time.(work to the drawing 18 inch centres no prisoners)

The base Scaffold once completed was set on creeping shuttering which allowed it to cover all lanes for support when concrete was required and being poured.

I have used 3inch only once since this experience (Pit Top 1974 )but would recommend the tube and fittings for any heavy duty requirements.(f*ck systems)

When you did go back to 2inch you felt like king kong for the day

At the time Scaffs were Scaffs and us labradors wanted to be part of it. (Serve your practical time before your accepted into the fraternity -Theory ive enough
paperwork to bum wipe for the next 20 years)

Practical work also keeps you fit when your a whippersnapper no need to fanny around joining a gym to waste your hard earned cash on unless theres a filly member worth getting to know.

Biggest regret never except for cradle outriggers experience used wood and lashings for the basic scaffolds.
