Default Poor Quality Spanners

I recently ( 2 weeks ago ish ) purchased 4 x Anodised Aluminium spanners from Buybrandtools for the lads at work , 1 red , 1 purple , 1 blue and 1 orange . The spanners certainly look the part and i`ve never had any quality issues with Priory spanners in the past , so , i thought they would be a safe purchase ...... how wrong was i ?

After only 2 days of relatively light use the lads all gave their spanners back to me as they were ` unusable ` .

The Red and the Purple spanners were both unused , the blue spanner was used for 1 day and the orange spanner used for 2 days .

This is what they look like after the above usage , note the chrome peeling off on the blue and orange spanner heads !!! . I know that they won`t last forever , but , 1 or 2 days is poor to say the least .

I contacted Buybrandtools and was told to return them so they can send them back to the manufacturer for assessment , no problem for me as it was obviously not the fault of Buybrandtools and it was very clear that these were poor quality tools . The spanners were sent off and yesterday 3 of them returned to me ---- the red one was credited back to me as it was unused but , say , the manufacturer ` there is nothing wrong with the spanners " .

I have also added a pic of a 12 month old spanner i currently use for comparison .

Would you class these spanners as acceptable ? I certainly don`t .

This post is not meant as a dig at Buybrandtools as i know this is not their fault , but , if it gets some attention from our sponsors who can look into it a little deeper it would be appreciated .

Thanks for your post. I will pass it on to the guys at BuyBrandTools, but it seems that it is an issue that needs to be dealt with by the manufacturers?

You cant beat the IMN all titaniuim spanners much quicker and easier to use!

I used to use priory when i first started but the boxes seem to flower very quickly!

Now i just buy the Titanium ones from Buy Brand who have been top notch every time!

I could not agree more , i`ve been using IMN Titanium for approx 8 or 9 years now and will not go back to steel .

I was offered a box of old Burton spanners a couple of weeks ago , thankfully , the days of repairing the pins with 6" nails and rapping your knuckles against the walls when the spanner slips off are long behind us now .

Ha yeah the good old days of cutting the handle down to make the spanner quicker! And the cut eyebrows and fore head when the box slipped off the nut cos the nail wasn't tight enough!

And labourers who could actually do their job without having to ask or be told!

You`re not wrong there , i think the common sense gene is seriously lacking in a lot of youngsters nowadays , not all - but quite a few ( especially the ones who have tried for a job with me anyway )

Common sense has now been replaced by the government as Health and Safety, its CDM's and regulations and technical guidance that tell tou how to do your job now, i mean who needs common sense!

If your on price you graft, your labourer should know what you want and have it there before you need it, not which foot do i put forward first! And the best one yet - I DIONT GET PAID FOR THAT OR ENOUGH TO DO THAT!

What happened to the good old days were you got a slap for answerin back or not doing your job properly!

Dont get me started!!!!
