Anybody got any idea if or where I am going to be able to find any spare frames for this brilliant little 4' by 4' steel tower I use for small jobs.? I need about another 4 frames to get comfortably to the apex of a roof, but would happily buy another entire tower if it matched.

Have been told by a couple of people it might be Toptowers Metro model, [ no longer made ] which was probably copied from GKN's 4x4 from about 30 years ago. These are the measurements -

Tower is 4 foot 3" square, and has a welded socket, not a swage fitting.

Frames are 51" wide, 1300mm; and are 27" high, 690mm.
Tube diameter is 1 1/4", 33mm.
Centre to centre of tubes is 49 1/2", 1257mm.

Anybody got any of this lying around they might like to sell on.?

Personaly I would scrap it and invest in a decent piece of kit

Hi Specialist and welcome to the forum. Sorry I cant help you but just because it's shiny and new does not make it better. What ever the reason you like this particular piece of kit I hope you find it on here.

Are you working on bungalow roof's ?, the height limit for the tower you mention is 12 ft.Smallest base dimension x3. Might be a better idea in the interest of your personal safety to invest in a newer model with outriggers.

Completely agree on the 'new and shiny' not necessarily being better, this one that we have is about 30 to 40 years old and has given amazing service for its lifetime, its just this one job that we could really do with another metre or so of height to work safely. From personal experience, the crap that we get sold nowadays is often just a poor imitation on what was being supplied a generation ago, and if it isn't Chinese made then its certainly trying to compete with what they can throw together out there for the price of a decent meal.

Anyone else got any info on this 'maximum height = smallest base dimension times 3' as there seem to be an awful lot of brand new scaffold towers out there that exceed this. Appreciate any advice, but a bit concerned that this is somewhat excessive and erring on the side of caution, having often had this tower up to 6 metres with no issues. We usually work on a solid, level floor, and tend to secure the tower quite well anyway, but as far as it toppling over, I think that is where steel beats lightweight aluminium every time. Once this tower is levelled out properly it doesn't move an inch.

Any other advice, apart from of course, 'go buy a new one'.?
