Hi Guys

As of current membership details, there are now 635 members.

How would you's feel about a 'Straw poll' to feel if it was right to have a consensus of opinion, regarding, promoting the 'Scaffolders Forum' to professional bodies.

In my opinion, this forum has bridged many a obstacle, and, gained a diverse membership associated with scaffolding operations.

Is this not the time, for us to insist to the relevant bodies, that this forum is a true and just voice of the majority, and require, a input in future consultations.

Could we not elect a Commitee of forum representatives, to represent us.

We have a mass of knowledge, within this forum:-
Scaffolders T&F
Scaffolders System
Directors
Contracts Managers
Design Engineers
Supervisors
Chargehands
Offshore scaffs
Major installation scaffs
Newbuild scaffs
Street scaffs
Asbestos removal, approved scaffs

The list is the tip of the proverbial 'Iceberg' the Knowledge, experiance, training, man hours and cetificated courses would stretch IMHO to over a million man hours of 'forum' experiance.

Your views and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Paddy

Paddy

I agree, perhaps this is the time to collate a consensus of opinion whither we as a Forum can offer an effective and efficient contribution to joint consultation with the Policy and Decision makers that Regulate our Industry.

However, will we be invited to the table ???

We might not be invited, so ****, we will invite ourselves.

I do not know if i am waffling at the moment, however,

A Scaffolders Trade Union, or Affiliation.

The following info is from HSE: Information about health and safety at work

Introducing the Subject
The Purpose of this Intervention
1 There is strong evidence to suggest that involving the workforce in health and safety matters has a positive effect on health and safety performance. This makes intuitive sense – those who perform tasks should know most about the hazards posed by their work, and the actions required to work in a safe and healthy way.
2 In order to realise these potential benefits, the Health and Safety Commission has prioritised worker involvement as a key plank of its Strategy to 2010. At the heart of our activity on worker involvement is raising awareness of these potential benefits, by changing attitudes to health and safety, and to worker involvement in it.
3 Achieving this aim requires the commitment of the whole health and safety system – employers, workers, inspectors and enforcement officers, health and safety professionals and health and safety policymakers. Health and safety visiting staff in particular have a vital role to play in promoting the value of worker involvement, and giving practical advice on how workers can be involved.
4 This topic pack is designed to help staff in HSE and Local Authorities to:
• understand what is meant by “worker involvement”;
• understand the legal requirements to inform and consult workers, along with the policy position on enforcing those requirements;
• determine when discussion of worker involvement is appropriate; and
• promote the benefits of involving workers.
5 By implementing this guidance during workplace visits, inspectors will help both the employer and workers (or their representatives) to:
• understand the legal requirement for information and consultation,
• understand what worker involvement is:
• find the subject less difficult to understand; and • be motivated to begin to better participate in the management of health and safety.
6 This pack is different from other topic inspection packs. There is no requirement to measure worker involvement, or to record findings on Inspection Report Forms. This does not mean that worker involvement is not a priority area – it underpins improvements in health and safety performance, and is key in tackling common health issues such as stress and back pain – but it should form part of the veryday visit process, rather than being a separate subject for inspection.
e
7 Using the guidance contained within this pack, Inspectors can play a key role in ensuring Britain’s workforce is more and better involved in health and safety in the future. We welcome feedback on the contents of this topic pack – please direct comments to HSE’s Worker Involvement and Inclusion Team

Regards
Paddy

Also from the HSE web site, but it makes sense:

Worker involvement on health and safety is simply a two-way process where you and your employees:

talk to one another
listen to one another's concerns
raise concerns and solve problems together
seek and share views and information
discuss issues in good time
consider what everyone has to say
make decisions together
Business benefits
Talking to, listening to and involving your employees helps to:

make your workplace healthier and safer
improve performance
raise standards
Key words
The key words in worker involvement are:

trust
respect
co-operation
joint problem solving.
Worker involvement does not have to be complicated.

Prepare[1] - Plan[2] - Consult[3] - Improve

Power to the scaffs
