Another from me. We ran a 2nd lift in at the correct height although attached at the back is a seperate low level garden room. If we carried the lift at the same height it would be too high for the roof level on the lower building. We stepped the scaffold to 350mm down from the rest of the 2nd lift but safety officer said height gap should be no more than 250mm 🙈 any help and literature to back up would be good

Would the safety officer be happy with adding a 3m ladder and a gate where the step is in the scaffold ?

It sounds like you're in a situation where the scaffold height variation might be a concern. The 250mm limit for height gaps comes from the need to ensure proper stability and worker safety. While the 350mm step down might seem necessary due to the roof level, it's essential to stay within safety regulations to avoid hazards. You could refer to the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance or SG4:15 scaffold safety regulations, which typically outline step-down limits and stability concerns. These sources will help reinforce your position with the safety officer.

Sure TG20 my have some guidance relating to step downs but not sure about SG4 (which has been updated since 2015).

If it's what the client wants then surely they should be able to have what they want as long as it's risk assessed, a safe system of work out in where needed and if it needs engineer input that is sought.
